Bicycle Education
The TreasureValley Cycling Alliance ‘TVCA’ Education Program provides low-cost and free bicycling clinics for recreational cyclists, event riders, commuters, and novice cyclists to create a better community through bicycling. We teach safe cycling to kids and adults through a variety of courses and delivery options.
RidingClasses/Clinics
TVCA offers the following classroom and on-bike road riding sessions taught by certified instructors, based on the League of American Bicyclists’ curriculum:

Street Smart Cycling 1: Introduction (4 hours classroom)
Learn to interact positively and confidently with traffic and get tips for riding through intersections and negotiating with cars--designed for young riders, recreational cyclists, and commuters. Workshop covers bicycle traffic laws, lane positioning, riding strategies, basic equipment and maintenance, emergency maneuvers, and safety. Classroom-only session includes demonstrations of emergency maneuvers and basic maintenance. Take this one now to gain experience and take the on-bike session later when you have time!

Street Smart Cycling 2: Tips and Tricks for Riding in Traffic and Emergency Maneuvers (2 - 3 hours on-bike)
On-bike basics of lane positioning, traffic laws, fitting in with and negotiating with traffic, getting through intersections, and riding strategies.
Also on-bike practice of techniques for avoiding accidents: riding with confidence in various traffic situations, emergency stops and braking techniques, rock and obstacle dodge, and quick turns. Covers general bike fit and handling.
Bring bike and helmet. Completion of Street Smart Cycling 1 required.

League of American Bicyclists – Road 1
Course Description: Road I (9 hours total) Gives cyclists the confidence they need to ride safely and legally in traffic or on the trail. The course covers bicycle safety checks, fixing a flat, on-bike skills and crash avoidance techniques and includes a student manual. Recommended for adults and children above age fourteen, this fast-paced, nine-hour course prepares cyclists for a full understanding of vehicular cycling.
