Bicycle Awareness
I retired a few years ago and in doing so my many years of bicycle commuting are but a pleasant memory. In my travels this summer in Europe I was struck by the number of people in the larger cities(particularly in Holland) that go everywhere on bicycles....including dates. I was told that many of the urban dwellers don't even own cars. Many of the cities now have "no car zones" where the only cars allowed are delivery vehicles that carry goods to and from the shops. As a result these walking areas are enjoyed by pedestrians and cyclists and unhindered by the cars...kind of like 8th Street and Hyde Park would be if cars were disallowed completely. Nice.
In France, I noticed "Share the Road" signs that were much more explicit than ours. I am attaching a photo of the signs. Apparently French law requires a minimum of 1.5 meters clearance granted to the cyclist by vehicles. What would it take to implement something similar in the Ada County? Do we have a similar law in Idaho?
Any thoughts on this? Warren

Warren, did you go to the
Warren, did you go to the ACHD "Roadways to Bikeways" meeting a week or so ago? They had a few ideas for signs and other markings. I like what the French are doing and would like to see it here too.
