A Ride of Silence - Invitation
Submitted by kurtz on October 23, 2007 - 8:53pm.
In memory of Sarah Howard, the cyclist killed by a careening SUV last Friday, I will host an informal Ride of Silence on Wednesday afternoon, October 24.
Departure point will be Big City Coffee & Cafe, in the Linen District at 1416 Grove Street, Boise. Departure time will be not later than 5:40 p.m. Everyone is invited to arrive early and visit a bit, before riding. I will arrive at the cafe around 5:00 p.m. The cafe will be open, serving its usual excellent fare.
The ride will follow a short route westward, then will loop back toward downtown Boise, ending either at the point of origin or in Hyde Park, as consensus dictates.
Here are the reasons we ride:
- to express our respect and sympathy for the grief that has befallen Sarah Howard's family;
- to renew and exhibit our trust that public laws and public works can accomplish the objective of public safety;
- to ventilate (silently) the feeling that when roadway safety is breached, every cyclist's trust is violated;
- to conduct ourselves in full view of those who write and enforce public laws, and of those who plan and operate public roads.
See you at the Ride,
