Hill Road 1500 additional cars

The Plano Road Subdivision is schedule for a hearing next month with the ACHD. The proposed development will add an estimated 1500 additional cars to one of the main recreational and commuter corridors in the valley. I think it is in the interest of all cyclist in the valley to stop this development and others that conflict with cyclying corridors in our area.

Really?! It's tough to think that the best way to deal with this situation is to simply not let them build the neighborhood. Seems a little unrealistic with a growing population. I agree that if the roads remained as they currently are we would have a problem for sure. I think a better approach to dealing with increasing population is to build a better infrastructure to deal with the larger number of vehicles.
What you're proposing is that instead of building more housing in an already developed area, we go further outside of our current boundries thus increasing sprawl. Seems like it would be in our best interests as cyclists to get neighborhoods rather than strip malls along our primary cycling routes. Having a neighborhood could be great. Yes it's a chance for more vehicles but this is also an opportunity for more cyclists. If every day you drove to work you saw more and more cyclists riding your same route it could inspire you to try and do the same. I don't think preventing these subdivisions from coming in is an appropriate plan. I think it would be a better plan to prepare for it and try to make them as bicycle conscious as possible.

I agree with your ideas of populating more densely and avoiding sprawl, however I think Hill road is a unique situation. I think everyone would have to agree that Hill Road is a special bicycle corridor. I am not asking for high density building to stop, I just think that we should preserve what is one the major bicycle roadways in the Treasure Valley. I can assure you that as long cars are encouraged in our society the way they are today, with every new development more cars will be filling up our roadways.
