I've also been seeing more bike commuters than last year. However as was mentioned in the Statesman the other day, many people consider bicycling to be a "fair-weather" only activity. Since we seem to have fallen back into winter lately, I'm guessing that they are waiting for the warm weather again. They just don't know what they are missing.
I've actually seen more commuters in the past few weeks especially with the $4 gas. My commute takes me through downtown and onto the greenbelt at the library into parkcenter. I've had a lot of encounters with cyclists so I think they're still out there. the belt seems to be getting a lot more use so maybe that's where they all went. Now today...with the wind, i didn't see many...but I was in my car. :(
