Cartwright Road Closure

Cartwright Road from the intersection of Dry Creek Road to Pierce Park Lane will be reconstructed over the next six months to create a wider, safer road. The developers of Cartwright Ranch are doing the project, which was required by the Ada County Highway District. Cartwright will be expanded from a 22-foot-wide road to a 32-foot-wide road with two, 11-foot-wide vehicle lanes and two, 4-foot-wide paved shoulders for cyclists, pedestrians and stalled cars. The road will be closed during construction, which starts on April 14, 2008 and will end in early October.

Street Smart Cycling now offered

TVCA is pleased to announce the launch of a new cycling education program. The program provides low-cost and free bicycling clinics for recreational cyclists, event riders, commuters, and novice cyclists to create a better community through bicycling. We teach safe cycling to kids and adults through a variety of courses and delivery options. For additional information on these new classes, see the Bike Education section.

Ride Idaho 2007

7 days, 430 miles, all on a bicycle… That’s the quick recap for Ride Idaho 2007. Ride Idaho is Idaho’s annual state bicycle tour that provides a great opportunity to cycle through some wonderful parts of the state, get a chance to meet a variety of very interesting people, and to completely check out from your normal life for a full week. This was the third year for Ride Idaho and I can attest that the event keeps getting better and better. We did a big clockwise loop starting and ending in Coeur D’Alene. Along the way we visited and camped in wonderful hamlets including Wallace, St. Maries, Deary, Lewiston (Hells Gate State Park), Moscow, and Heyburn State Park (on the banks of lake Coeur D’Alene). Many of us took advantage of an extra 34-mile loop out and back to Elk River – where tasty huckleberry ice cream and milkshakes awaited us.

Ada County Encourages Cycling with Employee Tune-up

Ada County rolled out a bicycle tune-up program for its employees to coincide with and support the “May in Motion” event organized locally by ACHD’s Commuterride. The program was designed to target employees who own a bicycle but don’t use it as often as they would like. Its goal was to provide employees with an incentive to try bicycle commuting.

The Greenbelt between Idaho State Parks headquarters on Warm Springs Avenue and the Idaho 21 bridge is closed due to an irrigation canal leak. Boise Project Board of Control Monday discovered a leak in the Penn Canal, which runs along the Greenbelt in the area. Crews will need at least three or four days to remove a section of the Greenbelt and repair the leak.

Greenbelt users have no way to detour around the repair zone.
